2024 Firefighter Compensation

Pension Eligible Calls

Incidents

  1. Members may receive compensation for each incident in which he/she is present. Members shall ensure his/her name is documented on the handwritten report for the incident or the Incident Sign-In Sheet at the fire department.
  2. The on-duty firefighter will attempt to document the members who are present at an incident; however, he/she shall not be held responsible for recalling the members who respond to an incident. 
  3. Members may be compensated $100.00 for Pension Eligible Calls that he/she is present, provided the following criteria are met:
  4. The member must return to the station at the conclusion of the incident for the purpose of returning the apparatus and equipment to service.
  5. If SCBA are used, hose needs cleaning and reloaded or equipment needs to be returned to service, the member must return to the station and assist. If washing and refilling the water tank of the apparatus is all that is required, members are not required to return.
  6. The sign-in sheet at the station shall be signed by personnel who return to the station for documentation when compensation is calculated.
  7. Members may receive $5.00 per non-pension eligible calls that they are present.
  8. Members who “cover” or “stand-by” at the station shall sign the sign-in sheet for non-pension calls if he/she leaves the station prior to the firefighter-on-duty return.
  9. Compensation will not be paid for calls that are “cancelled enroute” 


In 2024 Pension Eligible Calls shall be Working Structure Fires.


A Working Structure Fire shall be defined as  a structure fire that requires at least one 1 ¾ hose line to be deployed and all responding units/personnel will be needed on-scene. Generally fire will be visible from the exterior and has progressed beyond the point of ignition to involve other parts of the structure, room, etc...


Training

  1. Members may receive compensation for each drill in which he/she is present. Members may be compensated up to $24.00 per training drill provided the following criteria are met:
  2. Be on time. Drill starts at 6p.m. every other Thursday evening. The following criteria applies to all members: 
  3. Participate in the drill. Members will actively participate in the drill; the following will constitute a no-pay situation:
  4. If the chief or an officer is doing more than the member, i.e., loading, or rolling hose, washing apparatus etc.
  5. If the drill calls for bunker gear, weather fully dressed out or heads, hands, and feet, the members will be dressed-out in appropriate gear.
  6. Sign-in sheet. If the sheet is not signed by the attending member at the conclusion of the drill, the member will not receive pay.
  7. Signing another member name will constitute no pay for all persons involved as well as possible disciplinary action. 


Members must be present and participate in 2 of the 4 hours of drill.  Members with less than 2 hours of a drill will not be paid for the drill but will receive credit for their time at drill.

  • 4 hours of training - $24
  • 3-1/2 hours of training - $18
  • 3 hours of training - $12
  • 2-1/2 hours of training - $6
  • Less than 2 hours - $0


Additional Training

  1. Volunteer members may receive compensation for training they received in addition to the drill training offered by the department. Volunteer members may be compensated $5.00 per hour for training received from their fulltime job provided the training is fire related.
  2. Any training received from a job must be submitted with a certificate which includes the topic, instructor name and signature, date(s) of training and hours of training. The compensation does not apply to members who are employed or volunteer for another department.

Station Duties 

  1. Volunteer members may receive compensation for each station duty performed. Compensation shall be based on the formula developed by the Georgia Firefighters Pension Fund. Volunteers may be compensated $10.00 per point.   
  2. Credit for Station Duty is calculated via two (2) hour blocks and must be consecutive. Two (2) consecutive hours of documented station duty activity equals one (1) point. 
  3. The requirements for members to receive credit for a station duty is as follows:
  4. Work must be performed. Credit will not be given for “hanging out” at the station.
  5. GFPF Station Duty Report completed, signed, and dated.

Make-Up Training

  1. Members may be compensated $24.00 for the conclusion of an accepted make-up drill.
  2. Volunteer firefighters have busy lives and may not be capable of spending four (4) hours at a time for training, therefore, credit for make-up training may be calculated as follows:
  3. One (1) hour block [$6.00]
  4. Two (2) hour block [$12.00]
  5. Three (3) hour block [$18.00] 
  6. Four (4) hour block [$24.00]
  7. The requirements for members to receive credit for additional training are as follows:
  8. Training will actually be performed.
  9. Training drill report shall be filled out and signed.
  10. Training drills shall be entered in the fire department management software. 
  11. Training must be witnessed by the chief or firefighter on duty.
  12. At the end of the year, if the make-up training hours exceeds the training hours offered by the department, the excess training hours will transfer to additional training.

End of the Year Pay

  

  1. Members will be compensated in accordance with their participation in incident response and training as outlined above. 
  2. Members who fail to meet the 50% requirements for incidents and training will be deemed inactive for the quarters where 50% was not met.
  3. Members who are deemed inactive for any one (1) quarter of the year will not be eligible for full compensation at the end of the year for the inactive quarter.
  4. Members who achieve between 25% and 49.9% of combined drills, pension eligible calls, additional training, and station duties as determined by the GFPF Volunteer Service Affidavit, will be paid $5.00 per call, drill, additional training, and station duty attended for that quarter. 
  5. Members who achieve less than 25% combined drills, pension eligible calls, additional training, and station duties as determined by the GFPF Volunteer Service Affidavit, will receive no pay for the quarter.
  6. Members who are deemed inactive for two (2) non-consecutive quarters of the year will not be eligible for full compensation at the end of the year for the inactive quarters.
  7. Members who achieve between 25% and 49.9% of combined drills, pension eligible calls, additional training, and station duties as determined by the GFPF Volunteer Service Affidavit, will be paid $5.00 per pension eligible call and drill attended for the two (2) quarters.
  8. Members who achieve less than 25% combined drills, pension eligible calls, additional training, and station duties as determined by the GFPF Volunteer Service Affidavit, will receive no pay for the quarter.
  9. Members who are deemed inactive for three (3) quarters of the year will not receive any compensation for the year.
  10. Members who are deemed inactive for four (4) quarters of the year will not receive any compensation for the year and will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including removal from the department.
